Lychas variatus

Lychas variatus

Similar in most respects to Lychas marmoreus, with small size, slender body and marbled appearance. The most usual difference is it's orange/sandy appearance. It's normally found in drier more inland areas than L marmoreus, although still associates with rotting wood and gum trees. I have never known this species to be arboreal, it's usually found in amongst leaf litter or other ground vegetation. As with L. marmoreus it preys upon tiny insects and other invertebrates throughout the night, and is most active during warm summer nights.
