Urodacus novaehollandiae

Urodacus novaehollandiae

Habits are similar to other obligate Urodacus burrowers, with little surface activity other than maintaining burrow mouth and immediate area. These scorpions have very powerful chela(hands), being able to grip prey items with incredible strength. If the prey is large or gives too much trouble the scorpion will slowly bring the sting over and inject the doomed victim with deadly toxin, making food consumption easier. Often if food items can be killed by the powerful chela or simply don't resist, the scorpion will not bother stinging the prey and will consume it alive.
