Lychas marmoreus

Lychas marmoreus

One of the most commonly encountered scorpions is Lychas marmoreus. Due to it's common association with urban living I receive many emails from people who are concerned about this species invading their house. There is little to fear as no Australian scorpions are considered dangerous,
although adverse reaction to any sting is a possibility. If you are particularly worried about scorpions in your house send me an email and I may be able to get you in contact with others that have experienced the same problem.

This tiny scorpion grows to around 25-35mm. It has a very slender body with little mass, and certainly doesn't appear as intimidating as the Urodacus genus. It's commonly found amongst gum trees, living in bark debris and leaf litter. It has arboreal habits, often retreating under bark on trees, where they are often found in large numbers.
Common names for this scorpion include the Marbled scorpion
and the Bark scorpion.
Variable in colour, although most commonly grey/brown in appearance, it's most conspicuous aspect is it's marbled or reticulated patterning, small size, slender body and delicate claws (pedipalps).
