Lychas buchari

Lychas buchari

A small buthid scorpion, similar in many respects to members of Isometroides and also Hemilychas. The specimen pictured was found at Lake Hart, in South Australia's mid-north. These scorpions come out on hot summer nights to actively roam about the sand dunes surrounding the various dry salt lakes.
They grow to about 50mm in length (snout to tip of sting). They show the greatest number of pectinal teeth for the Lychas with a count around 26.

Buthids often carry a potent toxin and great care should be taken if these scorpions are ever handled.
