Description: A member of the endemic Australian Urodacidae family, whose closest relatives include members of the Scorpionidae inc., Heterometrus, Opisthophthalmus, and Pandinus.

Similar in most respects to U. elongatus, from which it can be most readily distinguished by truncate frontal lobes of carapace and long hands. Colour is variable, often dark reddish brown; hands, tail and vesicle sometimes paler yellowish brown. Chelicerae without secondary serrations. Tail very long and thin especially in male. Vesicle variable from moderately small to moderately large, aculeus short, slightly curved. Hand is flat, long and narrow with short fingers. Tarsal claws of equal length.
