Lychas Spp Studies
Found a Lychas? Post it to me and I'll thoroughly analyse, photograph and record the data, and then post it here. This will become a database for the Lychas complexes of species we tend to lump into the marbled scorpions. Each collector will be identified. Please take note of location, envieonment and date collected. Also where it was located, ie under log, blacklighting etc and any other info you think is relevant. |

Glossary
I tend to use descriptive words where possible, rather than having to explain everything. This makes for a cleaner explanation, but of course a glossary is needed to look up the words you may not be familiar with. I'll gradually add more as time goes by. Moderator: Mark Newton |

Scans
Here you'll find scans showing closeups of scorpion anatomy. Scans are represented in black and white, rather than colour. Why black and white? Colours in taxonomy are unreliable and should generally not be used to determine the ID of a species. These scans are from dead specimens and preserved scorpions change colour. To disable the typical human default analysis of colour, I have removed colour and forced the viewer to take in line, shape and texture, something which is far more difficult to do when viewing a coloured image. Hopefully these B/W scans will encourage the viewer to take notice of the shape and texture of scorpion features. Moderator: Mark Newton |
